Designing a POS System for Core POS: Challenges and Solutions
The main challenge associated with the project for Core POS was to create a modern and aesthetic system that would be characterized not only by ease of use but also by availability on various devices – both mobile (with the possibility of using tablets as cash terminals) and stationary (operated by touch or using an external keyboard).
When designing this type of solution, I had to take into account a number of variables, including:
- Use different types of external lighting.
- Operation on both modern computers operating in high resolution, as well as on outdated, budget equipment (sometimes even with monochrome screens).
- Intuitive operation for users without full training – the system had to be simple enough not to require separate training for employees.
- Preparation of solutions for remote management of assortment, promotions, stock levels, etc.
- Development of solutions to problems related to internet accessibility and conflicts resulting from the simultaneous introduction of the same products by different people.
Of course, a system of this size, apart from the “cash” application itself, also required the design of an application to manage the entire system within the retail chain.
The design work lasted about six months and resulted in several dozen screens for implementation, based on which it was possible to prepare even several thousand variations. While designing such a large IT system, I also took care of creating a website presenting the possibilities of Core POS.
